The Scene

Side elevation and plan of Captain Nemo's submarine: the saloon, the library, the engine room and the great spur at the bow, with the motto from Chapter 8 set in the title block. It is the Nautilus as a working drawing rather than a painting, for the reader who wants to see how she was put together.

The Style

An 1870 book wood engraving: fine, even engraved line and careful shading, the look of the pictures in the first French editions of Verne's novels.

The Inspiration

From Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne (1870). The motto, Mobilis in Mobili, is the one Verne gives the Nautilus in Chapter 8.

How It's Made

A print of a digital artwork in the style of a blue-and-white engineer's blueprint, not an original. Each carries my printed Chapter & Scene signature.

Sizes and Frames

A4, A3 or 12 x 16 in, unframed or framed (slim pine in black, white or natural oak, ready to hang). Made to order on heavyweight 200gsm+ archival matte paper. Free delivery to the UK and US.
