The Scene
Midnight in the drawing room, etched lines with soft colour lit by candle and tree. The battle of the toys is on, and Marie, in her nightgown, is about to join it.
The Style
A Victorian toy-book colour wood engraving: strong black outlines, flat bright colour and a decorative, storybook design, like the picture books children unwrapped at Christmas.
The Inspiration
From Nutcracker and Mouse King by E. T. A. Hoffmann (1816), the tale the ballet is based on, which is in the public domain.
How It's Made
A print of a digital artwork in the style of an etching with soft colour by candle and tree light, not an original. Each carries my printed Chapter & Scene signature.
Sizes and Frames
