The scene
Christmas Eve, deep night, in wood-engraved moonlight and snow with one warm window. A mouse sleeps by the fire, and above on the moonlit roof, the first shadow of a sleigh.
The style
An English Romantic etching: rich, velvety line and dense hatching, the full moon left as bare paper with fine lines radiating from it, and a warm plate tone over the whole night.
The inspiration
From A Visit from St. Nicholas by Clement Clarke Moore (1823), better known as Twas the Night Before Christmas, which is in the public domain.

How it's made
A print of a digital artwork in the style of a wood engraving in moonlight and snow, not an original. Each carries my printed Chapter & Scene signature.
