The scene
From The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter (1902). Once upon a time there were four little Rabbits, and their names were Flopsy, Mopsy, Cotton-tail, and Peter. They lived with their mother in a sand-bank, underneath the root of a very big fir-tree. The print sets that first line beneath the rabbits, with a plain band for your baby's name and date.
The style
A Victorian picture-book colour wood engraving: gentle outlines, soft greens and browns, and the warm, simple look of the first English picture books. It matches Messing About in Boats, for a storybook nursery set.
The inspiration
The look comes from Randolph Caldecott's The Diverting History of John Gilpin (1878), the colour wood engravings that set the pattern for the English picture book: the light line, the flat colour and the humour. The rabbits and the tree are my own.

How it's made
A print of a digital artwork in the style of a Victorian colour wood engraving, not an original. Each carries my printed Chapter & Scene signature.
