The scene
From a rock ledge above the plain, Mount Doom throws up fire and a column of black smoke, and rivers of lava wind across the ash toward a grey lake. A dark gate stands between the mountains on one side, a tower with a burning crown on a spur on the other, and the sky glows brown and red.
The style
A Romantic volcano painting of the 1820s: a sky of smoke and ash, glowing lava against deep brown shadow, and rough, dramatic rock, painted as if from life.

The inspiration
Inspired by The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien. The look comes from Johan Christian Dahl's An Eruption of Vesuvius (1824), the Romantic painter of volcanoes: thick smoke, a glowing crater and tiny scale. An independent art print, not affiliated with or endorsed by the author's estate or any film studio.

How it's made
A print of a digital artwork in the style of a Romantic nineteenth-century volcano painting, not an original. Each carries my printed Chapter & Scene signature.
