The scene
Half-timbered houses lean over the lane, their bay windows glowing amber. A lantern hangs from a bracket, the hanging sign is left blank for your own imagination, and the cobbles shine in the wet. The lane bends away into soft fog. No one is in sight.
The style
An Impressionist rainy street painting of the 1880s: soft, broken brushwork, warm window light and the shine of wet cobbles.

The inspiration
Inspired by Discworld by Terry Pratchett. The look comes from Childe Hassam's Columbus Avenue, Rainy Day (1885): a wet street, glowing windows and warm light on dark stone, painted in thick, soft oils.

How it's made
A print of a digital artwork in the style of a nineteenth-century rainy street painting in oils, not an original. Each carries my printed Chapter & Scene signature.
