The scene
A deep blue night, a crescent moon and a few stars. Chimneys steam softly, lit windows glow amber in gables and dormers, and a cat is crouched on a ridge in the moonlight. A narrow wet lane shines at the bottom of the picture.
The style
A Japanese woodblock night print: bold flat shapes, deep indigo sky, warm block colour on the chimneys and fine line on the roof tiles.
The inspiration
Inspired by Discworld by Terry Pratchett. The look comes from the Japanese woodblock prints of Utagawa Kuniyoshi (c. 1835): flat colour, bold outlines and a night sky printed in layered blues.
How it's made
A print of a digital artwork in the style of a nineteenth-century Japanese woodblock night view, not an original. Each carries my printed Chapter & Scene signature.
