Whitby Goth Weekend and Dracula: the places
The autumn Whitby Goth Weekend runs from Friday 30 October to Sunday 1 November 2026. If you are going, or just reading Dracula for Halloween, here are the real places in the book, and the print of the scene that starts with them.

The dates
Whitby Goth Weekend takes place twice a year. The autumn weekend is 30 October to 1 November 2026 (see the event's own site, whitbygothweekend.com, for tickets and programme).
The Dracula places to find
Bram Stoker stayed in Whitby in 1890 and set several chapters of Dracula there.
- The 199 steps: the stone staircase from the old town up the East Cliff, which Mina runs up in the middle of the night.
- St Mary's churchyard: the cliff-top graveyard where Mina and Lucy sit, and where Chapter 8 happens.
- The abbey: the ruined church on the skyline, which Mina describes as a noble ruin.
- The harbour: where the Russian schooner Demeter is driven in by a storm in Chapter 7.
Our full guide to all of them is here: Dracula in Whitby: the real places behind the novel.

The scene as a print
Something Long and Black is the churchyard scene from Chapter 8: Lucy on the seat, a blade of moonlight, and something long and black bending over her. It is made in the style of a Victorian mezzotint, the printmaking of Stoker's own years.
Whitby: Where Dracula Came Ashore is the harbour and the cliff in a railway-poster style.
If you are not going
You can still bring the weekend home. Prints are made to order and sent within 1 to 3 working days, with free delivery to the UK and US. The £7.99 download arrives straight away.
