The scene
Purple heather and rough grass flattened by a gust, a stream curling through the foreground, fallen stones in the grass and a bruised sky pierced by golden rays that light the ruin. There are no figures: the landscape does the work.
The style
A Dutch Golden Age landscape: heavy, rolling storm clouds, a single beam of light, and a ruin and a wind-bent tree set against a dark, dramatic sky.

The inspiration
Inspired by Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. The look comes from Jacob van Ruisdael's The Jewish Cemetery (c. 1655): a storm sky, ruin and a single bent tree painted with a dramatic, dark light.

How it's made
A print of a digital artwork in the style of a seventeenth-century Dutch storm landscape in oils, not an original. Each carries my printed Chapter & Scene signature.
