The unframed print
Wuthering Heights country, on a poster for the line to the moors.
Haworth, in the West Yorkshire hills, is where the Bronte family lived and where Emily Bronte wrote Wuthering Heights (1847). The poster shows the village on its steep street and the open moor above it, under a storm sky, with heather the colour of a bruise.
A bold 1930s English landscape painting: simplified hills, strong shapes and a strange, dramatic sky.
The look comes from Paul Nash's Landscape with Megaliths (1937), in Aberdeen Art Gallery: the flattened, monumental shapes and the stillness before weather. The village and the moor are my own.
A print of a digital artwork in the style of a 1930s railway poster, not an original. Each carries my printed Chapter & Scene signature.
